Rough Shooting, or “walked up” days are a popular form of shooting sport in Scotland.

Pigeon shooting games. Driven days shooting in Wiltshire,.

Our packages are suitable for teams of four to eight guns and will involve the guns shooting in a line, advancing behind working dogs. An expected bag for a walked-up day would be approximately 10-12 head of mixed game per gun (including pheasant, partridge, woodcock, snipe, pigeon, duck, rabbit or hare) but packages can be altered to suit individual requirements (including, for instance, targeting specific quarry). Hunting Scotland can arrange days at numerous estates all over Scotland. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Rough shooting is considered by some to be the true essence of game hunting and can come in many forms.

A Mixed Bag
This is where a group of friends walk in a line with dogs working just in front of them. Hunting out the game for a chance of a shot. The bag can consist of pheasant, partridge, duck, woodcock, pigeons, rabbits and hares. All dependent on the area you are in. You may walk for a while, ever ready, and see nothing. Just as you relax the dogs flush something and you then have only seconds to bring your gun up and make sure of your shot. Sometimes you are on target and other times not, oftentimes leaving your friends asking “how did you miss that?” A mixed bag and the good company of your friends gives you lots to talk about while having a nice evening meal in your shooting lodge.

Customer Testimonials

Just wanted to confirm in writing and as mentioned to you verbally recently, that from my perspective at least each outing with Hunting-Scotland is without doubt a feast for sense and sensibility. The camaraderie shared between Syndicate members (of both sexes) in exquisite and pristine Scottish locations always makes for a fabulous day - long may it continue!

Being based in Sydney for much of the year I also very much appreciate the logistics support you offer when sorting accommodation, car hire, shooting practice booking times, etc. Your email response time to any query I have is truly awesome!

I can now well appreciate why clients loyally return to shoot with Hunting-Scotland year in-year out. The Shooting Estates obviously hold strong personal loyalty to you as well as there is always a wonderful ambience that we syndicate shooters experience whenever visiting one of them for the day.

In the world of fact all this of course is about achieving the 'best client experience' but nonetheless whether heading to the next drive or over lunch at day's end it is ALWAYS one of the best of days!
Your Simulated Game Shoot Days at Cambusbarron are also brilliant as a syndicate or general practice day - only wish I could be at many more of them!

Finally I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the genuine efforts you go to in ‘making it happen for me’, regardless of whether I am in Edinburgh, down south or away in Sydney.

Brilliant to be part of it,

Mark Slee, Sydney

Our driven game shooting days usually consist of 8, 9, up to 10 Gun parties. We have driven shooting for partridges and/or pheasants with bag numbers from 125 to 400 head. Shooting locations are on several different estates in the Eastern Counties, Suffolk & Norfolk and we can recommend suitable local accommodation for your visits. Ideally we prefer to book full parties but we do put on some 20/30 days a season for individual Guns and part teams to book and make up team numbers. If you wish to book a full team of guns i.e. 8, 9, or 10 and have specific dates in mind please ‘ask the question’ as we may well be able to accommodate you only don’t leave it too late in the year as most of the popular dates fill early.

We have a range of driven game shooting and shooting is available to suit all competency levels, some offer a challenge to the best of shots whilst others offer sporting shooting for less practiced guns. We can offer up to 4 days back to back shooting in the same area on different estates. Also double gun days and mentors/loaders if required. Venues vary from grand country estates through to ‘farm’ shoots and we can advise on how to get the best from your day/s shooting and will try to place you on the most suitable venue. Starting in mid September we have partridge days from 125 – 400 birds and from October 125 – 400 bird days on both partridges & pheasants continuing all through the season. The majority of our days are for bags of 200/250.

Prices depend on the shoot day being offered but as a guide for this current 2020/21 season we have days priced from £30 per bird up to £45 per bird including VAT. The majority of which, at around £32/£34 per bird still puts us well below the national average price per bird. Unless otherwise stated all our prices include VAT where applicable as we don’t like springing surprises so what you see is what you pay also we don’t charge overages unless by prior arrangement. Very occasionally we can offer some shoot days at the very last minute but we do not discount days like some organisations as all our shoots offer good, sometimes great, value for money. It’s no good hoping that by leaving it late we may have some ‘last minute bargains’ as it doesn’t happen and even if it did they would be offered primarily to our regular clients. We always work on a ‘first come first served’ basis and until a day is booked and deposits received we will not fully confirm the event.

Most of our shoots do include mid morning refreshments and a shoot lunch or dinner, occasionally breakfast. Should you wish to arrive for breakfast before the shoot or, if not included in the package, arrange a dinner after the shoot please let us know and we’ll arrange that. Should guns wish to stay for several days or just overnight we’ll recommend some fine accommodation available in good local pubs, hotels and country house complexes with full butler, chef and maid services if you want the full Downton Abbey experience. Please ask for details.

All guns must carry public liability insurance and/or ideally be members of a field sports organisation such as BASC, CA, NGO or a similar organisation. We do not allow shooting without suitable insurance.

We also encourage Guns to join the Guns on Pegs Fieldsports Club which supports the GWCT and in turn offers a complete shooting insurance package. Cancellation of any shooting for whatever reason is the responsibility of the individual but we can help arrange cancellation insurance if it is required. Once booked and paid for we will not make refunds. It’s probably worth a mention that over several recent seasons, when the weather was been particularly bad none of our shooting was cancelled.

Foreign visitors bringing their own guns to the UK must also have a Temporary Visitors Permit which we can arrange through our local police Firearms Department.

Please note that we shoot to the BASC Codes of Practice for Shooting. For more details on this please ask for a copy or contact BASC on-line.
