The KV-2 is a tank practically synonymous with World of Tanks. It started out at tier 5 under the designation KV and eventually was moved to tier 6. This happened when the KV was split into the KV-1 and KV-2. The KV-2 is infamous mostly due to its impractical design and large 152mm howitzer gun. Tanks regardless of their tier are frightened when they come across a KV-2 since its high damage potential poses a huge threat compared to most other tier 6 tanks. This World of Tanks KV-2 guide will break down the KV-2 into its strengths and weaknesses. Whether you are looking to learn how to play the KV-2 better or learn how to defeat one this is guide will cover all areas.

Firepower

It would be foolish to not start with the KV-2’s firepower potential since the entire tank revolves around it. While the KV-2 has a choice between the 152mm and 107mm as a top gun the 152mm is what most people use. The 107mm while a good gun on the T-150 is harder to use on the KV-2 due to its weak armor and large size. It does have great damage potential but can be clunky to use against higher tiers and often times is a hindrance compared to the 152mm. Using the 152mm gun option provides you with a gun suited for the KV-2’s intended role, which is a direct fire howitzer platform. With a 910 damage high-explosive round and two 700 damage armor-piercing rounds the KV-2 packs a huge alpha strike.

To balance the high damage per shot the KV-2 has an abysmal .58 accuracy value, poor on the move accuracy, and a long 3.8s aim time. The damage per minute is excellent at 2,372 with HE rounds, and 1,935 with AP. Reaching that DPM however can be difficult since often you do not cause full damage with HE rounds and can miss several shots. All things considering the 152mm still performs well at lobbing rounds at all but max distances. Most enemies also are careful with engaging you if they do not catch you while reloading or have the upperhand. The key to using the KV-2’s 152mm comes with managing the reload and preventing enemies from exploiting it. Keep a bit of distance so that enemies are less likely to advance between shots, and always make sure you have some kind of help in the immediate area.

How To Win At Tanks Game Pigeon

  • Just never play more than 3+ matches in a row with a single tank and the WR will improve dramatically. Usually i start with a fun tank for example KV-2 and play 2 games with it. Then i switch to high tier 8-10 tanks and play again 2-3 matches. Then i go back to lowtiers and play one match with the Luchs or some other sealclubber.

  • I love this game!! It is super fun and it's something that's easy to do as well!! As some of the other reviews say though, some games can be confusing- some games have settings to choose from (like 'normal' or 'hard') and in that space there should be instructions too on how to play that game.

Armor

Full KV-2 Weak Spot Guide

While the KV-2 has immense firepower it does not have the same levels when it comes to armor. At tier 5 the KV tank has above average armor but at tier 6 both the hull and large turret lack adequate armor for protection. Tier 4 tanks will still struggle at penetrating most rounds but well placed shots will still make short work of the KV-2. Tier 5+tanks will cause damage with the majority of their shots making the KV-2 an easy target. With most players knowing it has high damage potential and weak armor you often are focused on early if caught in a bad position.

The size of the KV-2 is also a factor to account for since its turret is extremely tall. Without thick armor covering it the flat turret armor and large size makes for an easy target. Knowing when to pop out of cover is crucial and finding places where your tall size can be protected goes a long way. Luckily in brawling situations you can fall back on the high damage per shot to “trade” shots with similar strength enemies and still come out on top.

Mobility

Being a heavy tank the KV-2 isn’t known for its stellar mobility. With a top speed of 35 km/h and a reverse speed of 11 km/h it isn’t going to zip around the battlefield. Compared to its closest competitor the O-I it does however have a significant leg up on mobility across the board. Knowing that the KV-2 isn’t the zippiest of tanks is important since staying in the right spot will ensure your survival. Enemies know you have a large gun and weak armor so will react to your position on the map. While the mobility isn’t going to win any awards it is enough to change your position slightly in between the long reload.

Miscellaneous Attributes

Small attributes of a tank can sometimes make or break a tank in World of Tanks. The KV-2 does pay for its large gun size with some less and stellar miscellaneous attributes. With 860 health the KV-2 sits near the bottom of tier 6 heavy tanks and opens itself up for being knocked out quickly. While 860 is high compared to tier 6 tanks in general it is low considering it is a heavy tank and has poor armor protection. The 330m view range is also another strike against the KV-2 since it limits fighting on its own against a huge swath of tanks from tier 5-8 that it faces. Often if you are caught alone enemy tanks can spot and shoot you without you being able to react. While you can often cover up this negative aspect of the KV-2 with going to areas that fighting is closer it does reduce possible roles where you can fight effectively.

Tactics

Playing as a KV-2 comes down to managing your position on the map relative to enemy tanks. First you take into account whether there are a lot of higher tier enemies or if you are top tier. When top tier you can play a bit more aggressive since you can often take tanks out with 1-2 shots. Against higher tiers, especially tier 8, you’ll want to play safer at the start of the match and keep your distance just behind a group of heavy tanks on your team. Regardless of your position tier wise on your team it is critical to find areas with cover that allow you to take a shot then back into cover safely. With a long reload and poor armor it is a death sentence to be caught against enemies outside of cover or against superior numbers.

An easy way to rack up damage is to position yourself at mid range where you can either stay hidden or safe from most incoming fire. Finding a position where you have shots on multiple areas where fights usually occur allows you to continually lob rounds from a safe position while helping your team. While the .58 accuracy appears to be very poor unlike other tanks you simply need to land any kind of hit with HE to cause massive damage. The main hurdle to get over is the slow shell velocity instead of the accuracy.

In the end the KV-2 is more versatile than it first appears as far as dealing damage since it works well at close and mid range. At maximum firing ranges it struggles to land shots on moving targets but can be very effective at deterring enemies from advancing. Even against high tier foes getting hit by a consistent 200+ damage HE round that knocks out crew/modules is still a huge deterrent. The KV-2 excels at this and while you may be a tier 6 in a tier 8 fight you can influence the match more than you would think.

Recap

Overall the KV-2 is a favorite of many since its a unique tank that revolves around a 152mm howitzer gun. While it does provide huge damaging shots at times and can appear to be over powered it is balanced by its poor view range, health, armor, and mobility. Gone are the days of it sitting at tier 5 facing tier 3 tanks that couldn’t penetrate it. However, it still remains enough of a threat and thrill that it is a very fun tank to play regularly.
